Sarnia Receives Record Setting Rain

Environment Canada says Sarnia received nearly two inches of rain overnight Sunday and Monday.

The national weather agency says the total was 46.4 mm as of 4pm Monday. That smashes the previous record of 21 mm for March 28th set in 1977. Severe Weather Meteorologist Mitch Meredith, says it's the second record breaking rain event for the area in the last week. Thursday, March 24, 47 mm was recorded far surpassing the previous records of 13 to 15 mm.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority says water levels have been climbing quickly and have resulted in over-bank flooding into floodplain areas. Water levels in all areas of the watershed are expected to remain extremely high into Tuesday, especially in the lower reaches near Dresden and Wallaceburg. In St. Clair Township, Pretty Rd. near Stanley Rd. will be closed due to flooding. Residents are reminded to stay clear of watercourses and flooded areas.
