Marina Upgrades Delayed

The operator of Sarnia Bay Marina says Mother Nature has thrown a wrench into plans to complete a new parking lot and relocate the boat launch at Centennial Park.

Dave Brown says rain has caused delays but the Alternate Grounds Dockside restaurant will open Friday, April 8.

"All the underground and the gravel has been completed, we're awaiting the asphalt plant to open in the next week or two," says Brown."If Mother Nature is kind to us, we'll be putting black top down at that point."

Once the new parking lot is finished, work will begin to relocate the boat launch off the west end Centennial Park parking lot to between the fuel dock and the restaurant.

The work is part of a multi-phased $8-million restoration of Centennial Park after soil was found to be contaminated with hydrocarbons and asbestos in 2013.

The park is supposed to completely reopen by Labour Day this year.
