Former High School Reduced To Rubble

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board remains in talks with Bluewater Health for the sale of the former St. Pat's High School property on East St.

Board Associate Director Jim McKenzie remains hopeful a deal can get done.

The building is currently being demolished by Schouten Excavating Inc. of Watford for $449,000.

"I actually will be meeting with the hospital later this month," says McKenzie. "We have a meeting set up to pursue that discussion further and hopefully come to some resolution. So, things are looking good on that front and we're pleased with the progress."

Remediation work was done before the demolition to ensure all of the asbestos was removed from the site.

McKenzie expects the contractor to hand the property back over to the board by May 31.

If Bluewater Health buys the land, the adjacent track would continue to be used for the next number of years.
