Indian Rd. Overpass Repairs Ahead of Schedule

Lane restrictions on eastbound Hwy. 402 at Indian Rd. are no longer in place.

The highway was down to one lane to allow for repairs to the damaged Indian Rd. overpass, but have since fully reopened to traffic.

Ministry of Transportation spokesperson Liane Fisher says they are about one week ahead of schedule and hope work to be completed by the mid-May.

"The work this spring, there hasn't been any big unforeseen challenges," says Fisher. "We always try to minimize the impact to drivers with any kind of construction project and particularly with something like this where its kind of an emergency situation."

Fisher says remaining work includes reinstating the centre median and restoring two lanes in each direction on the Indian Rd. overpass.

Repair costs are an estimated $554,000. Fisher says the MTO will pursue cost recovery through the legal system.

A Scarborough company, Automatic Coating Limited and Scarborough driver, 55-year-old Terrance Hamilton have been charged in connection with the crash.
