Opening Night Proceeds Donated To Fort McMurray

Victoria Playhouse Petrolia has donated its opening night proceeds to the relief effort in wildfire-ravaged Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The 2016 season opened Saturday night to a sold out crowd for "Scotland Sings."

Co-Artistic Director David Hogan, in his pre-show chat with the audience, announced that all proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

"It's clear that we, as Canadians, have to take care of each other and this is one way we can do it. It's a small gesture that we're hoping will go a long way," says Hogan. "We are thinking of and praying for our Albertans as they face a devastating, life altering challenge."

Total donations from the evening's proceedings were over $10,000 which will be matched by the Canadian government.

Petrolia Mayor John McCharles echoed Hogan's sentiments saying, "I am honoured to be mayor of a town with such a huge heart."
