Gift Card Collection For Alberta Wildfire Evacuees

Gift cards are being collected in Petrolia for Alberta wildfire evacuees staying in Sarnia-Lambton.

Organizer Dave Perrin says he's been in contact with at least ten families staying locally with friends and relatives after being forced to flee.

He says the gift cards will be distributed among the evacuees.

"Some have even said they would take them back out west if they don't require them and distribute them there, so it's a worthwhile cause and people's hearts are in the right place," says Perrin. "We would like to just provide a little bit of help with day to day, be it groceries, a meal, gas money, whatever the public's looking to provide for support."

Residents can drop off gift cards at Heidi's Independent Grocer in Petrolia Saturday from 10am until 2pm.

Cash and gift card donations will also be accepted at the Co-operators office in Corunna next Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 5pm.
