A car and a residential garage have been destroyed following a fire near Germain Park in Sarnia.

The Sarnia Fire Rescue Service says on Thursday around 6pm, four fire stations responded to an Indian Rd. address and were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.

Fire officials say the homeowner was welding part of a car within the garage, which caused the vehicle to catch fire. The blaze then spread the to garage.

The homeowner was able to escape without injury.

Two homes near the garage sustained exposure damage due to the heat from the fire.

A damage estimate is unknown at this time.
