Sarnia Donates To Help Fort Mac

The City of Sarnia is donating $25,000 to relief efforts in the hamlet of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The donation, from the 2016 Operating Contingency Reserve, garnered unanimous support from all city councillors.

Councillor Brian White says as a whole, Sarnia-Lambton has contributed over $200,000 to For Mac, but its just the beginning.

"I think the opportunity still exists that we could come together as a community to give, Alberta's needs are going to cease in the next couple of weeks or even months," says White.

"Whenever we were able to give we gave and we gave well, I think beyond most people's expectations but at the same time we still have the opportunity to be creative as how we continue to support our brothers and sisters in Alberta."

The deadline for donations to the Red Cross to be matched by the Federal Government, in support of relief efforts in the Alberta hamlet, is May 31.
