Blast Wall To Be Erected At Imperial

Imperial is doing its part to keep workers safe at its Sarnia facility.

The company is erecting a steel blast proof barrier around an on site control room that's in close proximity to a process unit.

Spokesperson Jon Harding says it's being done in compliance with global safety regulations.

"On an ongoing basis, we need to make sure that buildings on site that are close to a process unit meet or exceed the safety standards," says Harding.

"It's API that sets the standard, and we make sure that those buildings are to that standard on an ongoing basis."

A $1.9-million permit was awarded by the city of Sarnia to undertake the work.

It won't be visible to the public and is expected to be complete by the second half of next year.
