UPDATE: Barricaded Man Arrested After Lengthy Standoff

A 51-year-old Sarnia man is in custody following a lengthy standoff with police. Emergency response teams from the city and OPP as well as hostage negotiators responded to a domestic situation at a home in the area of Talfourd St. and Lillian St. Constable John Sottosanti says there were concerns that the occupant possibly had a firearm.

"Sarnia police negotiators continued throughout the night attempting to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution and surrounding streets were closed to ensure public safety," says Sottosanti. "This morning at approximately 8am the suspect was taken into custody without incident."

The unidentified man was being held for a bail hearing charged with uttering threats.

The road was closed for about 14 hours with police initially responding to the scene just before 6pm Tuesday.
