Canatara Snorkeling Expedition Turns Tragic

A snorkeling expedition to explore a sunken shipwreck at the west end of Canatara Park beach has ended in tragedy.

Sarnia police say on Thursday, three men had ventured out into Lake Huron but as they began their return to shore, one was seen floating face down in the water.

The other two men began to perform CPR with the help of two nurses who were at the beach.

Sarnia firefighters and Lambton paramedics arrived on scene at 1:45pm and continued to try to revive the 76-year-old man, but he was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted but foul play is not suspected.
