UPDATE: Thunderstorms Possible As Cooler Air Approaches

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton early Friday afternoon and then lifted it a couple of hours later.

The national weather agency says conditions are favourable in southern Ontario for the development of severe storms in advance of a cold front that will bring relief from the heat and humidity for the weekend.

The immediate Sarnia area was not impacted by clusters of storms that developed in the early afternoon and quickly moved east. Forecasters said some of the storms had the potential to produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Sarnia's forecast calls for the chance of showers and thunderstorms into the early evening hours Friday.

We're advised to go indoors when thunder roars to protect ourselves from lightning.

Remember some severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
