History Comes To Life In Petrolia

It's one of the most unique fund raisers in all of Lambton County.

The Hillsdale Cemetery Tour is scheduled for September 17.

Spokesperson Liz Welsh expects the event to sell out again this year.

"We research a bunch of really interesting former residents interred at the cemetery," she says. "We provide that research to Petrolia Community Theatre and they create short, two to three minute vignettes about the person's life."

Some of the people this year were connected to the 150th anniversary of Petrolia's incorporation as a village, the discovery of the history King Well and the completion of a spur rail line into town.

Tickets cost $12 with proceeds going to headstone and monument restoration and Petrolia Community Theatre.

There will also be vintage and horse drawn hearses on display as well as items related to Petrolia's 150th anniversary.
