Bridge Tavern Demolition Scheduled Wednesday

The historic Bridge Tavern Restaurant in Pt. Edward is slated for demolition Wednesday.

The tear down of the nearly 60-year-old building will begin at 8am, at an estimated cost of between $75,000 and $100,000.

Property Standards Officer Kelly Bedard says a portion of Michigan Ave. will be closed from 1pm until 4pm as demolition moves to the front of the building.

"Basically it's detoured at Livingston and Monk, east and westbound won't be able to get through, other than emergency vehicles," says Bedard.

The building was permanently closed in early July after being declared unfit for human habitation by the property standards officer.

The owners had until July 29 to appeal but did not do so and the municipality will seek to recover its costs.
