Lambton College Captures Six Medals At Regional Firefit

Lambton College's Firefighter Combat Team remains hot.

They took home five gold medals and a silver at the Scott Firefit Eastern Regional competition this past weekend.

Captain Courtney Surridge won the women's individual race with a personal best time of 2:57. In all, she captured three golds, earning her the nickname "Usain Surridge."

Surridge and MacKenzie Baker won gold in the women's tandem event while Rachal Hunchak and Ashley Uniac-George earned silver.

Lambton's men's relay team won gold in the open relay and college divisions.

Head Coach Sue Patrick says the competition was tough and she's proud of her team.

"It was probably the biggest competition we've seen so far this season as in the number of competitors," says Patrick.

"There were a lot of career firefighters there, a lot of former champions and people that have been competing for a number of years. We even had three of four Lambton alumni competing with other departments that have been hired full-time."

In all, seven of 10 team members finished their individual races with personal best season times.

The team will compete in the Scott Firefit Regional competition, coming up August 26 in Oshawa.
