Off Duty Officer Threatened With Machete

It was scary incident for an off duty Sarnia Police officer Monday morning.

Around 10:40am, police say the officer observed a man acting very suspiciously in the 700 block of Rosedale Ave. He was allegedly going up and down driveways and looking into vehicles.

As the off duty officer confronted the suspect, police say a second man appeared, pulled out a machete and threatened to “cut” the off duty officer.

When on duty officers arrived, it's alleged the suspect with the machete fled the area on a bicycle but was arrested a short distance away.

The 27-year-old man that was going up and down the driveways was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and three counts of Breaching his Probation.

The 44-year-old man with the machete was charged with Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Assault with a Weapon.

Both were held for a bail hearing.
