Sarnia Police Investigate Unprovoked Assault

City police are investigating an unprovoked assault in the area of the landmark Kenwick Place building in downtown Sarnia.

Sarnia police and Lambton EMS responded to George St.  and Christina St. just before 7:30am Thursday morning.

Constable John Sottosanti says paramedics immediately assisted a 64-year-old male victim who was bleeding from the face.

"A witness that was passing by observed the victim lying on the ground and another male was over him punching him in the face," says Sottosanti. "As the witness approached the two, the suspect ran from the scene."

The suspect is described as being 6'0", 25 to 30-years-old, wearing black and white running shoes with a large letter “N” on the side. The male was also wearing bright multi-coloured Bermuda board shorts.

"The victim later spoke to police and advised them that he works for the premise where the incident took place and found the man on the property sleeping earlier as he was doing his property checks," says Sottosanti. "When the victim later returned to finish up what he was doing, he attempted to wake the suspect who was sleeping on the staircase by calling out to him. Upon doing this the suspect jumped up and ran at the victim knocking him down and began striking him in the face."

Sottosanti says the suspect was not known to the victim, who was taken to hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Sarnia police Constable Jason Boyd at 519-344-8861 ext. 6209 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
