Highway Deaths Caused By Distracted Driving Double Those Caused By Impaired Driving

Ontario Provincial Police now say that road deaths due to driver inattention, including texting or talking on a cell phone, are double those caused by impaired driving.

That's the first time this has occurred since distracted driving laws were introduced in Ontario in 2009.

OPP say as of mid-August, they've investigated 38 fatal crashes in which an inattentive driver was involved, compared to 19 deaths involving an impaired driver.

OPP will launch a Distracted Driving Campaign over the Labour Day weekend.
