Changes For Squires Ahead Of Upcoming Season

Some managerial changes for the Petrolia Squires as they prepare for the upcoming Senior "AA" hockey season.

Acting General Manager Dave Connors, who was deputy chief of the fire training division in Petrolia, has taken a job in Oakville as a fire training officer.

As a result, Connors says Head Coach Brad Wright will assume general manager responsibilities, and he'll be assisted by Kent Helps.

"They will look at hockey operations and scheduling with the league," says Connors. "I'll stay on as president and help with all the front office stuff."

Connors says they expect to return about 80% of last year's team, once again making them very competitive.

"We've always had tremendous support in Petrolia with the home town crowd," he says. "We work very well with minor hockey to bring some ideas and contests together to keep fans in the stands for both us and minor hockey."

Practices start the second week of September, with the home opener set for October 7 when they host Clinton.
