New Catholic French Immersion School Possible In Sarnia

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board thinks a new school would best address continued enrollment growth at it's Sarnia French Immersion school.

Director of Education Dan Parr says the board is considering its choices to address over capacity issues at Gregory Hogan.

"One of them is portables and we've added two portable classrooms to the site to accommodate the students for this year," says Parr. "But, we as a board don't see that as a permanent or as a long term solution. So, another project or another possibility to address that continued growth in that school is to make a case to the Ministry of Education for the building of a new school in Sarnia.

"As you can imagine, I'm sure boards all over this province are making cases for funding for new schools," says Parr. "We think we have a pretty solid case. It really is just our decision to explore any and all pathways in order to accommodate the strong growth of French Immersion in Sarnia."

Funding applications are to be submitted this October.

Subject to ministry approval, the board would like to purchase property and begin construction next July.
