Focus Group To Discuss Detox Centre

The quest for a new Withdrawal Management Centre in Sarnia Lambton continues at a seemingly snail's pace.

Bluewater Health is hosting a series of focus group meetings September 21 to gather input from health service providers and partners on what would be needed in a community hub.

Mental Health & Addiction Services Integrated Vice President Paula Reaume-Zimmer cannot provide a time frame as to when a site might be chosen or construction would begin.

"Of course, timelines are difficult to predict when you're back and forth with the Ministry," says Reaume-Zimmer.

"We're very happy to have our First Stage proposal to the LHIN Board in September. We're working very closely with the LHIN team and are very optimistic that the endorsement will be successful at that September Board meeting."

Proposed services to be housed in a $10-million dollar facility include a detox centre consisting of 10 residential and six stabilization beds, along with existing community withdrawal management services.
