Local MPP's Push For Hwy 40 Widening

Both area MPP's are urging the province to widen Highway 40.

Sarnia Lambton MPP Bob Bailey says improving the busy roadway between Wellington St. and Indian Rd. has been of prime concern locally for over 30 years.

"It's part of the trade route," he says. "Sarnia is an international crossing. Another route to get to the 401 or the 402 during road closures or inclement weather is badly needed. It's been asked for for 30 years now."

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton also wants to see a widening of Highway 40 between Wallaceburg and Chatham.

OPP statistics show in the past three years there have been 142 motor vehicle collisions on that stretch of the roadway, resulting in four fatalities and 27 serious injuries.
