Over $1M Marijuana Bust At Aamjiwnaang

Sarnia police have arrested suspects from Jarvis and London in a $1.1-million marijuana bust on Aamjiwnaang First Nation land.

The Emergency Response Team and Vice Unit officers investigated a recent report of a First Nation member being confronted in a wooded area by two men armed with machetes.

On Thursday, police searched the area and came across plots of land in the middle of the bush where large numbers of marijuana plants were being grown.  Two men residing in a make-shift hut were taken into custody.

About 800 plants were seized as well as 80 lbs of marijuana in different stages of production. Police say the street value of the marijuana is in excess of $1.1-million.

A 56-year-old man from Jarvis and a 59-year-old man from London are charged with production of a controlled substance, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

They were being held pending bail hearings.
