Driver Charged After Car Slams Into Building

Sarnia police have charged a driver with careless operation of a motor vehicle after a car slammed into the Sarnia Dental Care building Tuesday afternoon.

Constable John Sottosanti says police, Sarnia Fire and Rescue and Lambton EMS responded around 3pm.

"Upon arriving officers observed that a vehicle had driven through the wall of a building just east of Melrose Ave," says Sottosanti. "According to information received, the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Exmouth St. when it struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk area."

Sottosanti says the pedestrian wasn't injured, but the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into a building in the 800-block of Exmouth St.

A gaping hole was left where the car smashed through a window and part of the brick wall.

While police are not releasing the driver's gender, reports from the scene indicated a middle-aged woman was transported to hospital for assessment.

Sottosanti says luckily there was no one in the vicinity of the building at the time.
