OPP Seat Belt Campaign Underway

The OPP's annual seat belt campaign is underway and wraps up October 7.

Sergeant Dave Rektor says 347 people who were not buckled in lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions over the past five years.

"Our statistics show that 76% of those who died between 2010 and 2014 who were not wearing seat belts were males aged 25 to 34," he says. "Every officer is geared into this campaign because every front line officer has been at the scene of a fatality where if the driver or passenger had their seat belt on, they likely would have survived."

If you refuse to buckle up you could be fined up to $400 and two demerit points.
