Enniskillen House Fire Causes Significant Damage

Damage is estimated at $80,000-$100,000 following a farm house fire in Enniskillen Friday afternoon.

Petrolia Fire Chief Lawrence Swift says about 35 firefighters responded to the traditional two storey wood frame building in the 3200-block of Lasalle Line.

"The fire looks like it started in the kitchen area and was contained to the rooms, just around the kitchen area and up the stairwell," says Swift. "The structure is still sound, however a few of the rooms had substantial fire damage."

Swift says Oil Springs and Wyoming Fire Departments assisted.

He says one person in the home escaped injury after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

Swift says kitchen fires remain one of the leading causes of household fires in Canada.

As part of fire prevention week, he stresses the importance of not leaving your cooking unattended, having a fire extinguisher and working smoke alarms.
