Man Charged After Stolen Motorcycle Hits Vehicle

A 24-year-old Sarnia man faces numerous charges in connection with a collision involving a stolen motorcycle earlier this week.

Tuesday afternoon at about 1pm, police say numerous witnesses saw a motorcycle travelling west on Wellington St. at an extremely high rate of speed, cutting in and out of traffic and running through intersections.

At Lansdowne Ave., the motorcycle ran into the back of a vehicle after which the rider removed his helmet and shoes and ran from the scene.

Police say he tried to call a cab at a local school but citizens in the area flagged down an officer who was searching for the suspect, and the individual was arrested without any further incident.

The driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended did not sustain serious injuries.

The suspect is charged with possession of stolen property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of probation.

He was in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Wellington St. between Landsdowne Ave. and Tupper St. was closed Tuesday until about 10pm while police investigated.
