Second Theft At Same Gas Bar Turns Violent

Sarnia police say a Toronto man is in custody after cigarettes were stolen twice from the same London Line gas bar last week, and the second incident turned violent.

Thursday October 13, at around 9:30pm, a cashier recognized a suspect from an incident the previous Tuesday and was punched several times in the head when an attempt was made to stop the theft of cigarettes from a display case.

In the initial theft, at the same time of the day, the accused had fled with cigarettes without paying. The incident was caught on video surveillance and reported to police.

After the altercation Thursday night, the suspect warned the cashier not to follow him and that he had a handgun. Police made an arrest, without incident, a short distance away and no firearm was located.

Zakariye Mohamed was awaiting a bail hearing on charges of robbery with violence and theft under $5,000.
