Chemical Combination Leads To Odour Complaint

The Lambton Shores Forest Fire Department is warning against combining household chemicals following an noxious odour complaint around 5:30pm Thursday on Ann St.

Upon arrival, firefighters determined a combination of chemicals was being used to clear a sink drain. They say it created a chemical reaction that produced a toxic gas.

Three people were taken to hospital and their conditions are unknown at this time. Crews remained on scene for a number of hours until the residence was deemed safe, and it was then turned over to the property owner.

The fire department says the combination of any chemicals, household cleaners, or drain cleaners can produce vapours and gases that can be toxic and potentially fatal.
