Local MPP Wants Fines Imposed On Trespassers

The MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex is calling on the province to implement a minimum $500 fine for trespassing.

Monte McNaughton says the recommendation was omitted from recent changes to the Trespass to Property Act.

In a letter to Community Safety Minister Yasir Naqvi, McNaughton says the goal is to protect land owners.

He says some of the proceeds from the fines should be given to affected land owners to help them repair damages or remove garbage.

The proposal has support from Ontario's agriculture sector as well anglers and hunters.

McNaughton is now awaiting a response from Minister Naqvi.
