Proposed Petrolia Budget Comes In Below Inflation

The Town of Petrolia's proposed 2017 budget proposes a tax hike of just 1% on the municipal portion of the property tax bill.

Staff is also projecting increases of no more than 3% in both 2018 and 2019 and sewer rates are to be reduced by 5% in 2017, 10% in 2018 and another 5% in 2019.

A 2% increase in water rates is proposed.

Capital projects totaling $2-million are recommended including arena upgrades, playground equipment replacement and road resurfacing.

Residents are encouraged to attend a public budget meeting Monday November 14 from 5pm to 6:30pm in the council chambers at Victoria Hall.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
