Local Real Estate Market Listless

The vice president of the Sarnia-Lambton Real Estate Board says they need homes in all price ranges.

Steve Park says sales are being suppressed by a lack of listings that's been a consistent trend throughout the year other than the month of August. He says there's not a lack of buyers.

"Last month we listed 140 new listings and we had all of them and more sell," says Park. "So, I think it's more of a downward spiral in listings as opposed to buyers out there."

Sales last month totalled 155, down 12% compared to October 2015, but dollar volume was actually up 2% at $39.6-million. Year-to-date the value of sales is just shy of $400-million, 9% better than last year.

The average sale price so far this year is $233,000.

The highest number of residential home sales last month was 32 in the $150,000 to $199,000 range.
