Over 100 people attended Sarnia's fourth annual International Day of People with Disabilities celebration Friday morning.
Amy Brand shared her story about accessing sport and recreation activities.
The Great Lakes Secondary School physical education teacher has twin 12-year-old girls with Down syndrome and one has also been diagnosed with autism.
She says there are so many opportunities for people with disabilities in this area.
"At first I didn't realize all of the opportunities that were out there and I think that if I would have heard somebody speak about them when my girls were young, it would have opened some doors earlier than it already did," says Brand. "They are in cheerleading and they love it. Pathways teamed up with Bluewater Cheer and we thoroughly enjoy that program."
The city of Sarnia collaborated with Lambton College's Developmental Services Worker and Therapeutic Recreation programs for the event at the college's event centre on London Rd.
