Plane Seized At Sarnia Airport

The Canada Border Services Agency has released information about the seizure of a biplane at Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport October 12.

The CBSA says a Woodstock man flew into Sarnia and called CBSA, advising the agency of his arrival. Upon examination, officers discovered he had failed to declare he had purchased the plane stateside and instead told them he had bought it in Canada.

Documentation showed it had just been purchased in the U.S. for $110,000.

The plane was seized for inaccurate information and the terms of release was set at $58,000.

The owner was charged under the Customs Act with non-reporting and attempting to evade the payment of taxes.
