Sting Shutout In Saginaw Thursday

The Sarnia Sting (16-11-3-0) fell 3-0 to the Saginaw Spirit (10-13-3-2) Thursday night at the Dow Events Centre to snap their three game winning streak.

Kris Bennett opened the scoring for Saginaw with his 6th goal of the season, former Sting forward Hayden Hodgson picked up an assist on the play.

Shortly after, while on their third straight powerplay, the Sting appeared to tie the game. Anthony Salinitri looked to have scored from a bad angle on a rebound off the end boards.

The goal was waived off because the puck never crossed the line, and Hodgson made it a 2-0 contest just a couple of minutes later.

Hodgson scored his second of the game with 1:12 remaining in the game to seal the 3-0 win for Saginaw.

Evan Cormier was solid between the pipes for the Spirit, stopping all 27 shots he faced. Sting goalie Justin Fazio made 40 saves on 42 Saginaw shots.

Sarnia sits 3rd in the OHL's West Division with 35 points, eight points back of the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds and seven behind the Windsor Spitfires. Saginaw is 5th with 25 points on the campaign.

The Sting return to action Saturday night against the London Knights for the Ugly Christmas Sweater game at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
