Monitoring Children's Health Through Online Tool

Lambton Public Health is encouraging parents to use the 'Nutri-eSTEP' screening tool.

It scans the physical ability and eating habits of toddlers aged 18-35 months and young children aged 3-5 years old, so parents can monitor children's physical and eating habits.

Registered Dietitian Connie Mallette says the survey asks a variety of questions.

"It asks about all the four food groups, whether the child eats vegetables, fruit, whether they're drinking milk and how much. Do they drink sweetened beverages. It talks about their screen time. How much T.V. are they watching and how much activity are they getting."

Mallette also says the survey helps parents learn how to keep their children healthy.

"After completing the online tool, parents get some responses back based on their children's eating activity habits and helps to point them into the right direction of where they need some changes and ways to improve their children's eating habits and gives them some resources to do that."
