Sarnia Man Arrested After Police Pursuit

A Sarnia man faces charges following a police pursuit on the weekend.

Police say just before 9pm on January 7, officers tried to stop a car in the area of Exmouth St. and Indian Rd. It was believed the vehicle had left a gas station without paying.

Police say the driver sped away and a number of attempts were made to evade police by turning abruptly off of side streets and running stop signs.

Officers broke off the pursuit for public safety, but the vehicle was seen again by police on Confederation St. driving in an unsafe manner.

The suspect vehicle was followed into a parking lot at the end of Bennett St. and the driver was found pretending to asleep.

As a result, 22-year-old Dillon Heywood of Sarnia faces charges including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of suspected methamphetamine.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
