Makerspace Makes County Debut

Lambton County Library will launch the second phase of its Makerspace project at Lambton County Council Chambers Wednesday, before taking the open-access workshop concept to rural library branches throughout the county.

Branch Services Manager Laurel VanDommelen says the mobile Makerspace will allow the public to use tools that would not otherwise be accessible or affordable.

"The Mobile Makerspace is a rotating collection of technologies, tools and toys, 3D printers and vinyl cutting machines," says VanDommelen. "We've found the public is very interested in the 3D printing because they don't have it in their homes. We also find a number of patrons coming in to use the sewing machine, expressing an interest in learning to sew."

Over 5,000 people have accessed the Makerspace project since its initiation at the Sarnia Library in 2016.

More information including a list of mobile locations can be found at www.lclibrary.ca
