Impaired Driving Charge Laid After Car Smashes Into Home

A 36-year-old Sarnia man is facing impaired driving charges after a car slammed into a house in Sarnia's south end Friday night.

Around 11:25pm, Sarnia police and EMS were called to the area of Cobblestone Cres. and Finch Dr.

Police say there was extensive damage to the residence and the vehicle, which was lodged into the front of the house.

The driver of the vehicle was still on scene and suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, no one in the home was injured.

The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance for medical attention, and a subsequent breath test confirmed he was impaired.

Jonathan Gies is charged with impaired driving, possession of marijuana and possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
