Upgrades Planned At Greenwood Rec Centre

The Greenwood Recreation Centre in Petrolia is getting a much-need facelift, thanks to a $274,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Rink boards will be replaced, safety netting installed and a compressor will be replaced over the next 11 months. Some of the work will begin immediately while the boards will come out and the nets go up when the ice is removed in May.

Bluewater Power Corporation will provide $7,500 for a new scoreboard and have its logo displayed as sponsor.

Greenwood was built in 1962 and this is the first time the boards have been replaced. The last major infrastructure upgrade was a change to the seating and the installation of an elevator in 2012.

The Trillium Foundation's Ontario150 Community Capital Program was established to help celebrate Canada's 150th birthday this year. It involves a series of one-time grants for municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous communities.
