Flaring At Imperial Oil Caused By 'Operating Issue'

Personnel are investigating following an "operating issue" at Imperial Oil's Sarnia site, as well as a nearby grass fire.

Imperial says the site's emergency warning sirens were activated on Thursday around 6:20pm due to the issue, but the company has not provided any details as to what caused the problem, which resulted in visible flaring.

After responding to the "operating issue," Imperial fire response personnel also assisted in extinguishing a grass fire on another property to the south.

No one was injured during either incident.

The company has notified the City of Sarnia as well as the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

Imperial says it is investigating the cause of the operating issue and personnel are working to restore site operations.
