Imperial Reports 'Small' Hydrocarbon Leak

Imperial has reported what it calls a small leak of liquid hydrocarbon from a line on the company's property in Sarnia.

Spokesman Jon Harding says the leak was identified at about 1pm on Monday and was quickly contained by responding personnel.

Harding says the material that leaked, amounted to less than 10 litres, and was being recovered. He says air quality monitoring near the leak did not identify any impacts and the all clear was issued at about 3:30pm.

Imperial is investigating the cause of the leak. The Chemical Valley Emergency Co-ordinating Organization (CVECO) and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change have been notified.

There are no reports of injuries.

Several processing units at Imperial's Sarnia manufacturing site are still being restarted after they were shutdown due to a mechanical issue last Thursday evening. The incident caused excessing flaring.
