Global Donuts Celebrates Fat Tuesday

It's fat Tuesday and that means Global Donuts on London Line will be especially busy, making and selling thousands of paczkis.

Owner Gus Pantazis expects to sell at least 18,000 of the deep fried, sugar coated, fruit-filled pastries.

He says they've been selling them for 30 years.

"We have apple, lemon, cherry, strawberry, custard, raspberry, blueberry, coconut, key lime, and the traditional prune," says Pantazis. "We have ten different flavours in total, and I must say we only use top quality jams."

Pantazis says they've started selling paczkis during the week leading up to Fat Tuesday, which helps alleviate crowds on the big day.

Paczkis are eaten as part of the Shrove Tuesday feast in advance of 40 days of Lent which begins Wednesday.
