Shipping Container Bars And Restaurants To Be Explored

Sarnia council is further exploring the idea of allowing outdoor bars and restaurants to operate out of modified shipping containers along the waterfront.

Donna Hogan proposed the idea to council after visiting a similar facility in Midland, Michigan last summer.

Councillor Brian White thinks it's worth investigating.

"Kudos to the business owner who was forward thinking and coming to the city," said White. "I think we could use a lot more folks like that bringing their ideas forward so that we could benefit everybody through improvements to our amenities and potential revenue uptake."

Council has directed staff to further review the proposal, consult with downtown businesses and provide more information on estimated costs and funding opportunities.
