The Sarnia Sting scored early and often in their 5-3 win over the first-place Erie Otters on the road Saturday.
Sarnia has won three of their last four games. Two of those wins were against teams already in the playoffs, the Otters and the Windsor Spitfires, both on the road. The Sting currently sit in the last playoff position in the OHL Western Conference with 64 points, seven points ahead of Saginaw.
Jordan Kyrou started the scoring less than two minutes into the opening period for Sarnia, and Jaden Lindo added a goal later in the frame to make the score 2-0 Sting after one period of play. For Kyrou, a St. Louis Blues propsect, the goal extended his point scoring streak to a league best 26 games.
Dylan Strome cut the Sting's lead in half just after the start of the middle period with his 20th goal of the year for the Otters. Sarnia then got back-to-back goals from Anthony Salinitri and Kevin Spinozzi for a 4-1 lead. Erie got one of those goals back before the end of the second period on a score from Alex DeBrincat.
The two teams exchanged goals in the third period. Drake Rymsha gave Sarnia a 5-2 lead at 1:10 in the frame. Taylor Raddysh scored later for Erie on the power play.
Despite the score, Sarnia only got 14 shots off the entire game. Troy Timpano stopped nine of those shots. Justin Fazio made 45 saves for the win.
It was the Otters first loss in regulation on home ice this season.
