Kyrou's Point Streak Longest In The OHL

Sarnia Sting forward Jordan Kyrou has been on some kind of hot streak lately, with points in 27 straight games.

That's the longest such streak in the Ontario Hockey League this season, ahead of Jeremy Bracco's 26 game streak when he was with the Kitchener Rangers.

The St. Louis Blues second rounder was having a decent season already, with 13 goals and 28 points in his first 34 games, but he's been on a whole other level since.

The hot streak started on January 1, when he scored a goal in a 5-3 loss against London. He's averaged nearly two points a game since, with 17 goals and 30 assists during his 27 game point streak.

He has 30 goals and 88 points in 61 games this season, the fourth highest point total in the OHL.

He says getting drafted to the NHL in the second round has helped him keep his focus on the ice.

"It gives me more confidence, and I'm not too worried about the NHL draft and where I'm ranked," says Kyrou. "I can just focus on my game and do all the little things to get better."

Head Coach Derian Hatcher has watched Kyrou grow more and more confident as the season's gone on.

"Confidence is one of those things, you can try and tell someone they have to be confident, but you need something good to happen to gain that confidence," says Hatcher. "That's the biggest thing about Jordan right now, he's very confident, but it did take a few good games and a few good things to happen for him to really become that confident."

He says Kyrou has shown his ability to be an elite scorer in the OHL.

"After Christmas he really kicked it up to another gear, he can do things at such a high speed, and he's doing it every night now," says Hatcher.

Kyrou's 27 game point streak is the longest by a Sting player in 20 years, when Trevor Letowski had a 34 game point streak during the 1996-1997 season.
