Snow squall warnings for Sarnia-Lambton ended late Wednesday morning as off lake streamers gradually weakened. The warning for east Lambton was taken down first but continued for a few more hours for west Lambton as a persistent snow squall remained locked in just east of the city. It was blustery in the city Tuesday night but a slight shift in wind direction spared the urban area of any significant snow accumulation. The town of Petrolia reported about 10 cm (4 in) of windswept snow on the ground. A major winter storm brought significant snowfall to parts of southern and eastern Ontario. Environment Canada says the Hamilton, Ancaster, St. Catharines, Welland and Fort Erie areas received amounts ranging from 25 cm to 40 cm.
Ottawa airport recorded 18 cm. It will remain unseasonably cold into the weekend with the temperature climbing to 4 C (39 F) in Sarnia by Sunday.
