Sarnia police say venturing out on ice at this time of year is dangerous and can tie up valuable emergency resources. At around 6pm Monday, officers and firefighters rushed to Canatara Park beach after several young people were reported to be out on the Lake Huron ice. Upon arrival no one was seen but further investigation was needed to make sure no one had fallen through. A bystander reported the group had returned safely to shore and police were able to find the individuals and warn them of the dangers of unstable ice. Police say the incident not only tied up resources but put emergency responders lives in danger.
