A few redevelopment applications have cleared a first hurdle.
Sarnia council has granted Monteith Brown planning consultants permission to apply for official plan amendments for two city residential development projects.
Planners intend to ask council to consider a residential development of the Brights Grove Golf Course and redevelopment of the former Devine St. school site.
While plans for the Brights Grove property weren't shared, the future vision for 321 Devine St. was.
Overture Investments Director of Financial Acquisitions Francesco Chieffalo told council they plan to establish a $41-million campus of care style development.
"That's including care beds for seniors with alzheimer's and dementia and apartments for both independent seniors and seniors who require assistance in their daily lives," says Chieffalo.
Chieffalo says the Overture Memory Care on Devine will give Sarnia the province's first world class dementia care provider.
"Our care methodology will ensure that seniors can age in place, this eliminates and minimizes the need for seniors to move from home to home as they age," says Chieffalo.
Chieffalo says their original plan requires a total of 138 full-time positions and partnerships with Lambton College to offer practical training to recent graduates of the PSW, RPN and RN programs are being explored.
According to the planning act, no person or public body can request an amendment to a new official plan before the second anniversary of the first day any part of the plan comes into effect.
The city's official plan was fully implemented July 15, 2016. Therefore, applications to amend the official plan aren't permitted until July 15, 2018.
