Petrolia Compost Site Closed Until Further Notice

The Petrolia Compost Site on Maude St. in Petrolia is closed until further notice.

Director of Operations Mike Thompson says the decision was made after a recent Environment Ministry inspector issued several orders.

"Anywhere from putting a fence around the perimeter of the compost site to cutting the hours, to more sampling of incoming and outgoing compost to extensive training for staff," he says. "It's cost prohibitive. We don't have the staff or the manpower to achieve these things so that's why we made the decision to close the compost until further notice."

Thompson says staff is now trying to determine how to proceed. The town has 30 days to comply to the orders.
